Teaching Experience

 

Aside from her active professional career as a composer and pianist, Dr. Amiryan has also been engaged in music education for over fifteen years. Besides the passion to share her diverse and rich musical background and skills, it is also her desire to achieve self-improvement as a professional musician that makes her pursue teaching career in music. Having been trained in the highly-developed traditions of the Armenian and Russian music schools and having completed her doctoral studies in the United States, she offers rich approach to the study of music and brings fresh and original approach to teaching practice.

Dr. Amiryan offers an extensive teaching experience in the fields of composition, piano, and music theory.  She has taught at a number of higher institutions in the United States including: San Jose State University, University of Silicon Valley, University of Missouri, SAE Institute San Jose, UMKC Community Music and Dance Academy, and Crowden Music School in Berkeley. She has been invited to present lectures and lecture-recitals at such prestigious institutions as the Royal College of Music in London, United Kingdom, Florida State University in Tallahassee, California State University, Stanislaus, University of Missouri-St. Louis, University of Connecticut, UConn, Southern Connecticut State University, Oregon State University in Corvallis, and Naregatsi Art Institute in Yerevan, Armenia. After relocating to San Diego, California she was hired to instruct at the University of California San Diego.

Dr. Amiryan has the distinction of being a Steinway & Sons Educational Partner. She prepared many students for the MTAC, ABRSM, RCM, and AP Music Theory exams for all levels. All of her students have passed with high scores, some with distinction. She has prepared students for competitions and auditions for college admissions throughout the United States. Her students have won scholarships and have been successfully admitted into renown university music programs.
